“Can’t Say No” by the Helio Sequence

Keep Your Eyes Ahead

Keep Your Eyes Ahead

The Helio Sequence’s Keep Your Eyes Ahead came out in January, so this isn’t exactly a new song.  But “Can’t Say No” blows me away every time I hear it, this song is just absolutely perfect:  the stacatto verses, the interplay of the guitars and the chiming background, all leading to the big catchy chorus.  The band’s last album, Love and Distance, was pretty damn good, but this album is a big leap forward.

Anyway, I actually heard this song in the Gap the other day, so it must be catching someone’s ears.  Check out the song on their MySpace page, along with several other tracks off their album, including the very cool “Hallelujah” and the haunting, rootsy “Shed Your Love”, which shows just how affecting Brandon Summers’ singing has become.

(long, pointless, wanky walk down memory lane below the fold …)
